Madra na n-ocht gCos - Dog with 8 legs VIII

.
Mar do tháinig siad go léir ina gcló féin agus d'fhuair an bhanphrionsa Blath seoda agus cloiseann siad go raibh an machtire marbh.
(How they all got their own shapes back and the Princess Flower got presents and they hear that the wolf is dead.)

í raibh uain aice a thuilleadh a rá nuair a bhí na trí cinn de conaibh tagaithe mór timcheall uirthe agus ag léimrigh isteach ina choinnibh agus le scannra do bhuail sí iad le na dá láimh a d'iarraidh í fein a chosaint mar do shíl sí go rabhadar chun í strachadh as a chéile. Ní túisce bhuail sí iad na dhéin trí mná breátha, óga dhiobh agus do phóg gach aon duine aca í sar a bhfeadair sí cad do bhí titithe amach. Is uirthe féin a bhí an ionadh nuair a chonnaic sí cad do bhí aice i nionad na trí gcon acht triúr mná breátha agus gurb iad triúr deirfiúr Mhadra na nOcht gCos iad. D'iompuídheadar anonn ar a ndeartháir annsan agus do phógadar é go dílis mar an gcéanna.

52. She had no chance to say more before three hounds came jumping around her and she began to beat them with her hands in terror to defend herself because she thought they were going to tear her asunder. No sooner had she laid hands on them than they turned into three beautiful young women and they kissed everyone present, before she could understand what was happening. She was amazed to see what were there in place of the three hounds, but three beautiful women and to learn that they were the three sisters of the Dog with Eight Legs.. They then turned to their brother and kissed him dearly in the same way.

53. Tar éis tamall cainnte a bheith aca le chéile, dúirt deirfiúr chríonna Mhadra na nOcht gCos, Bheimís go maith anois dá mbeadh ár mbanaltra bhocht againn. Le na linn sin, cad do chífidís ag déanamh ortha agus a bhéal ar leathadh aige ná gadhar mór dubh, agus do bhíodar ag féachaint air ag teacht agus do liúig an bhanphrionsa Bláth agus duirt sí,Sin é gadhar m'athar agus an gadhar céanna a chosain mise agus mo pháistí ar an machtíre sa choill inniu. Le n-a linn sin, do rith an gadhar fé n-a dhein agus do labhair sí leis an ngadhar agus chrom an gadhar ag lútáil timcheall uirthe. Chimil sí a bas do'n gadhar agus n'i tuisce dhein ná do dhein bean bhreá dhe. Ní tuisce bhi sí tagaithe n-a cló féin ná dhein sí anonn ar an mbanphrionsa Blath agus do phóg sí í agus do phóg sí iad go léir i ndiadh ar ndiadh agus níor dhearmhad sí an triúr garsún. Tá'n mactíre marbh agam," a dúirt sí, agus ní dóigh liom go mbeidh aoinne ag síleadh na ndeór mar gheall ar sin, mar is amhlaidh go raibh an mactíre sin 'na bandraoi !

53. After talking a while together the eldest sister of the Dog with Eight Legs said, "We would be grand now if we only had our poor old nurse." Just then, what did they see making towards them and its mouth open but a big, black dog. As they were looking, Princess Flower cried, "That's my father's dog and the same dog that protected me and my children from the wolf in the forest today." At that, the dog ran towards her and she spoke to it and it began to jump around her. She fondled the dog and no sooner had she done that than it became a fine woman and when she had regained her own shape, she went over to Princess Flower and kissed her and all of them and she did not forget the three boys. "I have killed the wolf," she said, "and I don't think anyone will be shedding tears over that, because she was a witch !"

54. Bhí Madra na nOcht gCos agus a thriuir deirfiúr lán d'athas i dtaobh a mbanaltra bheith aca n-a cló féin ari/s agus níor mhó an athas sin ná an ionadh a bhí ar an mbanphrionsa Bláith nuair a fuair sí amach gur b'í an bhanaltra an gadhar a bhí i dtig a hathar agus mar an gcéanna an gadhar a chosain í féin agus a triúir cloinne ar an mactíre. 'Seadh anois, arsa an Madra leis an mbanphrionsa Bláth, Níor innseas duit cé leis an chúirt sin a chíonn tú tamaillín uainn nuair a fhiafraighis díom é ó chianaibh. Sin í cúirt mh'athar agus do chúirtse agus mo chúirtse an fhaid a mhairfeam, mar is mise is oighre ar ríocht mh'athar; agus tá sé chómh maith againn go léir gluaiseacht le chéile anois agus dul go dtí í, mar táimid cortha tuirseach ó n-ar gcúrsai agus is mithid duinn suamhneas éigin fháil.

54. The Dog with Eight Legs and his three sisters were full of happiness over having their old nurse in her proper shape again and their happiness wasn't greater than the amazement of the princess when she learned that the nurse had been the dog which had been in her father's house and which had defended herself and her three children from the wolf. "Well now," said the Dog to princess Flower, "I never told you who owns the palace which you see a little way ahead of us, when you asked a short while ago. That is my father's palace and your palace and my palace for as long as I shall live because I am the inheritor of my father's kingdom; and it's as well now for us all to go there now because we are all weary and worn-out from our adventures and we need to get some rest."

55. Fán go fóill, arsa duine des na deirfiúreachaibh, chun go dti go dtiúbhraidh mé comhartha eigin duit go mbeidh tú ag cuimhneamh ormsa agus ar an lá seo. Le sin, thug sí siosúr di. Biodh sin agat, ar sise,”agus an bua atá aige ná fuil aon duine n'a dtiúbhraidh tú sceabh de air ná go dtiocfaidh an culaith éadaigh air is breátha do chonnaic aoinne riamh ar an dtalamh.” agus deirimse libh nach rabhadar gan súile fliúcha nuair do phógadar a chéile. Tamaillín ina dhiaidh sin tháinig deirfiúr eile i leith agus thín sí cíor chuiche agus duirt sí lei í sin a choimead uaithe feinig go mb'fheidir go mbainfeadh sdí tairbhe aisti fós,” agus 'sé an bua ata ag an gcior sin,” arsa sise,” ná fuil; aon cheann go dtiubharfai scriob de air ná go mbeadh folt gruaige air n'a diadh comh bhreá agus ná feacaidh aoinne riamh ar cheann duine.”. Le sin tháinig an triú deirfiur i leith agus duirt, "Seo dhuit an t- iorna snátha seo mar comhartha muíntearais, agus 'sé an bua tá ag an úrna sin: dá mhéid do dhéanfair do thochrais anuas de ní thiocfaidh aon laidú air." Gaibh Banphrionsa Blath buiochas ana mór don mbeirt sin aca agus do phog sí gach duine aca.

55. "Wait a while now," said one of the sisters, "till I give you something so that you'll be thinking of me and this day." With that, she gave her a pair of scissors. "Take that now, and the gift that it has is that no matter who you give a snip with it to as fine suit of clothes will come on them as was ever seen on the face of the earth.” I tell you that they were not dry-eyed when they kissed each other. A short while after another sister came over and handed her a comb and told her to keep it as a gift from her and that maybe she might be able to use it some time. " And the power that it has is that there isn't a head that you might give a scratch with it that a beautiful mop of hair as fine as anyone ever saw on anyone won't grow there." With that, the third sister came over and said, "Here is this hank of yarn as a sign of our friendship and the power that it has is that no matter how much you take off it, it will never grow less." Princess Flower thanked them both and kissed each of them.

56. "Fán go fóill," arsa an Bhláth, "Chun go mbainfeadsa tarrac éigin as na seódaibh do fuaras ód dhreifiúreacha." Le n-a linn sin, do tharraig sí amach an siosúr agus do thug sí sceabh de uirthe féin agus ar gach aon duine eile aca siar go cúl agus tháinig chulaith éadaigh ar gach aon duine aca ba bhreátha chonnaic aoinne riamh. Annsan do tharraig sí amach a cíor agus do scrabhadh do'n chír ar a ceann féin agus ar cheann gach aon duine aca, dáltha mar a dhein sí leis an siosúr agus tháinig folt gruaige ar gach aon duine aca ba bhreátha dá bhfacha aoinne riamh. Annsan, do tharraigh sí amach a húrna agus duirt sí leo," Is dócha nach miste libh mé dhá thabhairt seo d'ur mbanaltra do thriall comh maith dhúinn go léir. "ó ní miste !" arsa siad d'aon ghuth. 56. Wait a while now," said princess Flower, "Till I get some use out of the presents which I have received from your sisters." With that, she pulled out the scissors and gave herself a snip and to everyone else present and there came clothes on each of them finer than anyone ever saw. Then she got the comb and gave herself and everyone there a quick scratch with it the same as she had done with the scissors and there came a mop of hair, finer than anyone ever beheld on every head. Then she pulled out the hank of yarn and said to them, "I suppose that no-one will object to my giving this to your old nurse who looked after us all so well." "Oh, indeed we won't object !" they cried with one voice.

We would like to acknowledge that, because of unavoidable condensing, necessary for fitting this tale into the space available, some alteration in plot has had to be made. We have, however, tried to use own beautiful West Cork Gaelic as far as possible.
