The subject, the name Wilkinson is of course purely English, and it is very uncommon in Ireland. But a family of that name obtained lands in Co. Meath in the seventeeenth century, and the existing tombstones in Tara Protestant Church and burial ground mostly belong to members of it; so that they sleep within a stone's throw of the site of Tara's HallSkreen Cstle, near Tara, ws occupied by a Wilkinson, as inded it still is and it seems probable that this tune was composed for the owner of the Castle in Carolan's time.
Notations are courtesy of Carolan, the Life and Times of an Irish Harper by Dónal O'Sullivan vol 1 pg. Celtic Music Edition 1983.
