Nothing has been found regarding the subject of this air, but the families of the same name were mostly located in Tyrone and Fermanagh in Carolan's time. There was a Captain Noble among the Williamite forces besieged in Derry in 1689, and on the 25th April he distinguished himself in a sortie. Carolan's Miss Noble may have been a descendant of this officer. ...O'Sullivan p. 261 2024 edition.
