Maurice O'Connor was the head, in Carolan's day of the O'Carolans of Offaly. Maurice's father was Sean O'Connor of Cappagarrane or Gortnamona, a picturesque spot on the margin of a small lake a short distance from Tullamore on the road to Roscrea.
