Sir John Clotworthy, of Antrim, Co. Antrim who was M.P. for that county in 1634, 'supported Cromwell, by whom the greater part of the vaste forfeited estates of the Marquess of Antrim were alloted to him. Later on, however, he was greatly instrumental in forwarding the Restoration,and, in reward, therefore was created Baron of Lough Neagh and Viscount Massereene. The subject of Carolan's air is probably the 4th Viscount whose seat was at Antrim Castle.
