Seán Mac Seón - John Jones

Jones Family Crest
Jones Family Crest

A clue to the subject of this song is provided by a note scribbled by Bunting in one of his rough notebooks. The note runs: Jones, a taylor made Carolan a suit of clothes and did not charge him anything for it. This seems to suggest that Carolan composed the song to oblige the taylor in exchange. ...O'Sullivan vol 2, pg. 40.

A óig-bhean mhin, fóir orm déan,
Fóill! Ná saoil m'fhógairt ón tsaoghal.
Is leór dhuit mar taoim creapailte ag an mbás.
Gointe, greadtaí ó do shaighdibh grádha.

Má rinné túan fheall 's nach dtiocfa tú liom
Mar dubhrais ar maidin síos faoi an ngleann,
Mo sgaoith bhuan mhallacht sgaoilim leat-sa,
Mí ní mhairfead -- is mé Seón Jones.
