An endless road to crises

There's a time for everything under heaven

We will never expect what we will see when the road of life turns ahead of us What is the meaning of human life ? The title Ecclesiastes given to this book is a translation of the Hebrew name Qoheleth meaning "the one who convokes an assembly." This biblical book is concerned with the purpose and meaning of human life.

The addition of the lyrics "turn turn turn" to the passage from Ecclesiastes 3 is great as it expresses what King Solomon was describing up to this point in the book. These seasons continue to come and go without fail and this was a discovery to Solomon that was disheartening ... as rich as you may be and as much as you can pursue what you want, it all seems like chasing after the wind. Almost right after these words that the Byrds repeat in this song, King Solomon writes that God "made everything beautiful in its time." Life is full of ebbs and flows and that is how its supposed to be.

  3 a time to kill and a time to heal,
       a time to tear down and a time to build,

tráth caointe, tráth rince,

 4 a time to weep and a time to laugh,
       a time to mourn and a time to dance,

5 tráth scaipthe cloch, tráth bailithe cloch,
tráth beirthe barróg, tráth séanta barróg,

 5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
       a time to embrace and a time to refrain,

6 tráth cuardaigh, tráth caillte,
tráth coimeádta, tráth caite,

  6 a time to search and a time to give up,
       a time to keep and a time to throw away,

7 tráth stróicthe, tráth fuála,
tráth tosta, tráth cainte,

 7 a time to tear and a time to mend,
  a time to be silent and a time to speak,
8 tráth grá, tráth fuatha,
tráth cogaidh, tráth síochána.

  8 a time to love and a time to hate,
       a time for war and a time for peace.
9 Cén tairbhe a bhaineann duine as an dúthracht a chaitheann sé lena chuid oibre?

 9 What does the worker gain from his toil?
10 Chonaic mé an saothar a thug Dia don chine daonna le déanamh.

10 I have seen the burden God has laid on men.

11 Gach uile ní a dhéanann Dia, oireann sé dá thráth féin; ach bíodh gur chuir sé ar chumas an duine machnamh a dhéanamh ar imeacht an ama ina iomláine, ní féidir leis an duine an obair a dhéanann Dia ó thús go deireadh a thuiscint.

 11 He has made everything beautiful in its time.
He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.
