Catherine Martin

Martin Family Crest

Catherine Martin lived on the shore of Lough Key, near Boyle, Co. Roscommon. The second verse tells us that she is from the parish of Ardcarn, overlooking the lake. In all probability she was the daughter of Thomas Martin who is mentioned in the Kilronan Rent Roll. The farm of Cloghteragh was leased to him on 27th September 1725.

Tá suairc-bheantséimh ar bhruach Loch Cé
A dtráchtann cléir is uaisle is éigse,
An sgéal so tá mé ' rádh anois,
Cluinfidh É gan spás é.

Cailín maodh-chrobh nbán lag
Thuigios gach siansa go sásta,
Ainnear na ndlaoidh chas is geanambla pib gheal,
Súd í Caaitlin Máirtin.'
