Cití Mac Aonghasa - Kitty Magennis

Magenniss Family Crest
Magennis Family Crest

It appears from the words that Kitty Magennis was a daughter of Arthur Magennis. The manuscript from which it is printed gives the title of Catherine McGuinis and attributes it to Carolan. In all probability Arthur was a neighbor of Maguire of Tempo to whose place Maguire suggested to Carolan that they should ride over for dinner; but Carolan demurred on the ground that he wished to go to Alderford.

Tá uaisle na h-Éireann a' méadadh gach spóirt,
A dúil leis bpéarla, onghean tréitheach Airt óg,
Súd mar tá mé féin leat, a chúil tais na gcraobh chas,
Dá mba righ mé ar Éire bhéinn a' dréim le do phóig!
