Robert Hawkes

Hawkins Family Crest
Hawkins Family Crest

This song was evidently made in celebration of a wedding. There was a family named Hawkes living at Skehigny, Co. Roscommon, and Arthur O'Neill mentions in his memoirs that he visited a Parson Hawkes at Skreen, Co. Sligo. ...Dónal O'Sullivan 2001 1 vol. edition p. 244.

Go maire tú do phósadh,
Sgéal is fearrde cóigeadh,
Maoin is táinte,
Saoghal is sláinte

A bhias agad-sa i gcomhuidhe!
A Riobaird mhóir, mhic Seóin, mhic Éadbhaird,
Is uasal tréan do cháirde,
Is mór do ghaol 's gach áit dámbír,
'S ni bréag sin do rádh anois.
