Féach an Bogh' Báistí - Look to the Rainbow

rainbow

A fellow took this picture of a rainbow from his own backyard. Upon first seeing it, I thought: "Are we in Kansas and is this from the wizard of Oz?" The photographer's name is Mike. Nothing more is known of him. Rainbows are optical and meteorological phenomena that cause a spectrum of light to appear in the sky when the sun shines onto droplets of moisture in the Earth's atmosphere. The music and lyrics are from the Irish musical Finian's Rainbow.

le Seán ó hAonghusa
Ar an lá rugadh mé,
Duirt m'athair, duirt sé fhéin,
Tá leagáid galánta agam
Ag fanacht dhuit,
'Sé rím le haghaidh do bheol
'S amhrán le haghaidh do chroí,
Chun seinm an uair tit
A' saol as a chéile.

Curfá:
Féach, féach,
Féach an bogh' báistí
Lean tú é trasna an chnoic
Is an tsruth.
Féach, féach,
Féach ar an bogh' báistí
Lean an diúlach óg
A leanan aisling.
Lean an diúlach óg,
Lean an diúlach óg,
Lean an diúlach óg
A leanan aisling.

Brontannas costasach
A oidhrigh do leanbh,
Ba mhealladh an t-amhrán sin
A choinnigh a cosa ar fán.
Mar ni éiríonn tú aosta
'S ní stadann tú ariamh,
Le ceol an "whippoorwill"
taobh thiar den chnoic romhainn.

Athuair Curfá:

Do bhailigh mé mo chroí
Is an domhan do shíor-shiúl,
Soir leis an fhuiseog bhinn
Siar chuig an fharraige mhór
Is chuardaigh an domhan uile
'Sna spéartha ghlan ar fad
Ach fuair mé é faoi dheireadh
I shuile m'fhíor ghrá fhéin.

Athuair Curfá:

by E.Y. Harburg
On the day I was born,
Said my father, said he.
I've an elegant legacy
Waitin' for ye,
'Tis a rhyme for your lips
And a song for your heart,
To sing it whenever
The world falls apart.

Chorus:
Look, look,
Look to the rainbow.
Follow it over the hill
And the stream.
Look, look
Look to the rainbow.
Follow the fellow
Who follows a dream.
Follow the fellow,
Follow the fellow,
Follow the fellow
Who follows a dream.

'Twas a sumptuous gift
To bequeath to a child.
Oh the lure of that song
Kept her feet funnin' wild.
For you never grow old
And you never stand still,
With whippoorwills singin'
Beyond the next hill.

Repeat Chorus:

So, I bundled me heart
and I roamed the world free.
To the east with the lark
To the west with the sea.
And I searched all the world
and I scanned all the skies.
But I found it at last
in my own true love's eyes.

Repeat Chorus:

The plot of this musical revolves around Finian McLonergan, who has emigrated from Ireland to the town of Rainbow Valley in the mythical state of Missitucky with his daughter Sharon, intent on burying a stolen pot of gold in the mistaken belief it will grow and multiply. Hot on their heels is Og, a leprechaun intent on recovering his treasure.
The original Broadway production opened on January 10, 1947 at the 46th Street theater in New York City, where it ran for 725 performances.
