The Tradition of the Advent Wreath
First Week of Advent

The Advent Wreath, a venerable European tradition, is a symbol of the coming of Christ. It is a circular evergreen wreath with four candles around the wreath, one for each Sunday in Advent.
The story of advent begins with the prophecy in the book of prophet Isaiah that a virgin would conceive and bear a son. This was eight hundred years before the birth of Christ ...Editor.

gus labhair an Tiarna le hÁchaz arís agus dúirt:

10. Again the Lord spoke to Ahaz:
11. Iarr comhartha duit féin ar an Tiarna do Dhia, as duibheagáin Sheól aníos nó thuas in arda na spéartha.

11. Ask for a sign from the Lord, your God; let it be deep as the neither world, or high as the sky!
12 D’fhreagair Áchaz: Ní iarrfaidh, níl mé chun dúshlán an Tiarna a thabhairt.

12. But Ahaz answered,"I will not ask! I will not tempt the Lord!"
13 Ansin dúirt sé: éistigí mar sin, a theaghlach Dháiví, an é nach beag daoibh sárú ar dhaoine go gcaithfidh sibh mo Dhia a shárú ina theannta sin?

13. Then he said: Listen O house of David! Is it not enough for you to weary men, must you also weary my God?
14 Is é an Tiarna féin mar sin a thabharfaidh comhartha daoibh. Seo, tá an ógbhean ag iompar agus ar tí mac a shaolú, agus tabharfaidh sí ímeánuéil mar ainm air.

14. Therefore the Lord himself will give you this sign: a virgin will be with child, and bear a son, and will call him Emmanuel.
