An t-Asal Marbh - The Dead Jackass


Caitheann an tAth Ó Murchú a shuil an tfhuinneog amach ar maidin agus cad tá ar an bhfaiche taobh amú roimhe ach asal marbh.

Father Murphy looks out his window one morning and sees a dead jackass on the lawn.
Glaonn se ar oifig na nGardaí ar an dteileafon agus deireann,"Tá asal marbh 'na luí ar m'fhaiche taobh amú. An misde cupla gardaí a cuireadh cugam i leith cun é a thogaint as?"

He telephones the police station and says: "There is a dead jackass lying on my lawn. Can you send a few fellows over to take him away?
"Cheapas i gcomhnui gur ar do churamsa e Óla Deireanach a cuireadh ar na marbh!" deireann an garda.

"I thought that Last Rites was your business," says the policeman.

( Fr. Murphey remains silent for a couple of seconds...)
agus ansin deireann sé, "Is cheart dom eolas a cuireadh ar na ngeasghaol ar dtus!" And then he says: "but first we must notify the next of kin."
