Magnificat - Mary's Song

Mary and Elizabeth
"All generations shall call me Blessed."
"Déarfaidh na gline uile feasta gur méanar dom." Lúcás 1:48.

The angel Gabriel told Mary that her cousin Elizabeth was pregnant and soon to give birth to a baby boy and that he would be named John. Mary went to the hill country of Judea to visit her cousin. She stayed there for three months and then returned home. When Elizabeth greeted Mary she said "Blessed are you among women. Then Mary replied with the following words which are now known as the Magnificat or Mary's Song.

long stemmed rose rann manam an Tiarna,

47 agus rinne mo spiorad gairdeas i nDia mo Shlnaitheoir.

48 ir dhearc s le fabhar ar sle a bhanglaigh; mar fach, darfaidh na gline uile feasta gur manar dom.

49 ir rinne an T at cumhachtach nithe mra dom agus is naofa a ainm,

50 agus t a thrcaire ghlin go glin
dibh seo ar a mbonn a eagla.

51 Thaispein s neart a limhe:
scaip s an dream a bh uaibhreach i smaointe a gcro.

52 Leag s prionsa na gcathaoireacha,
agus dardaigh s daoine sle;

53 Lon s lucht an ocrais le nithe maithe,
agus chuir s na saibhre uaidh folamh.

54 Dfhir s ar Iosrael a sheirbhseach,
ag cuimhneamh d ar a thrcaire

55 de rir mar gheall s dar n-aithreacha
dAbrahm agus d shliocht go brch.

46 My soul magnifies the Lord,

47 And my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour.

48 For He has regarded the low estate of His handmaiden, For behold, henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.

49 For He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name.

50 And His mercy is on those who fear Him from generation to generation.

51 He has shown strength with His arm:
He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.

52 He has put down the mighty from their thrones, and exalted those of low degree.

53 He has filled the hungry with good things; and the rich He sent empty away.

54 He has helped His servant Israel, in remembrance of His mercy;

55 As He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his posterity forever.
